As a wedding planner, I have the unique opportunity to experience destination weddings from multiple perspectives: as a planner ensuring everything runs smoothly, as a wedding guest celebrating love, and as a resort guest enjoying a well-earned vacation. My recent stay at the Grand Palladium in Costa Mujeres, Mexico, allowed me to do just that. I want to take a moment to share my gratitude, highlights, and honest feedback from this experience.
A Warm Welcome
From the moment we arrived, my husband and I felt welcomed. Check-in was seamless, and we were pleasantly surprised to receive upgraded wristbands that granted us access to the entire resort—such a thoughtful touch that set the tone for our stay. Our room was absolutely beautiful, with a breathtaking view that made every morning feel magical. The front desk staff was friendly, full of smiles, and eager to make us feel special—a fantastic way to start our vacation.
The Wedding Day: A Flawless Experience
The reason for our trip was to celebrate a wedding, and I can confidently say that the wedding day itself was the best experience we had during our stay. As a wedding planner, I have a deep appreciation for the behind-the-scenes work that makes an event flawless, and I have to give immense credit to Fernanda, the wedding coordinator. She was outstanding—responsive, organized, professional, and a calming presence throughout the day. Every detail was handled perfectly, the timeline stayed on track, and she ensured a stress-free experience for the couple and their guests. Grand Palladium is incredibly lucky to have her!
Resort Highlights
While the wedding was the high point of our stay, there were several other standout aspects of the resort:
- Entertainment Staff: They struck the perfect balance—engaging and fun without being overbearing. Activities were available for those interested, but we never felt pressured to participate.
- Poolside & Beachside Bar Staff: Attentive, friendly, and always ensuring drinks were full—exactly the service you hope for on a tropical getaway.
- Dinner Experiences: The ability to make unlimited dinner reservations was a huge plus. The reservation system was simple, and the food at each restaurant was delicious.

Constructive Feedback
While we had wonderful moments, I believe in providing honest feedback to help improve future guest experiences.
- Inconsistent Service at Breakfast & Lunch: Unlike other resorts I’ve visited, the service during breakfast and lunch was disappointingly slow. Coffee refills and drink orders took much longer than expected, and at one lunch, we waited 30 minutes before being acknowledged by staff.
- Room Concerns: While our upgraded room was beautiful, we struggled with a strong mildew/mold smell, and an air conditioning system that never fully cooled the room. The housekeeping staff did a great job keeping things tidy, but these underlying issues affected our comfort.
- Pool Bar Cleanliness: While the pool itself was lovely, the pool bar had an unpleasant odor that made it difficult to order drinks. Additionally, the bar was often understaffed, leading to long wait times.
- Service Disparities Between the Adult & Family Sides: We noticed a stark contrast in service levels between the adult-only section and the family-friendly areas. While the adult side offered exceptional, attentive service, the main resort areas did not always meet that same standard. Ideally, all guests should receive a consistently high level of service, regardless of where they stay.
Final Thoughts: Would I Recommend Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres?
This is the hardest part of my review. Would I recommend this resort? If I’m being completely honest, I don’t think I could fully endorse it based on my experience. Exceptional service is what makes or breaks a resort stay, and while there were bright spots (especially Fernanda and the beachside staff), the inconsistencies in service and room issues made it difficult to fully enjoy our time.
That being said, I truly believe Grand Palladium has the potential to be a fantastic destination. With improvements to service consistency and attention to detail in resort maintenance, it could become a top-tier choice for couples and travelers alike. I am grateful for the wonderful moments we had and the kindness we received upon arrival, and I hope my feedback can contribute to positive changes in the future.
To future couples considering a destination wedding here—your wedding day will be in great hands with Fernanda and her team. And at the end of the day, celebrating love in a beautiful location is always a magical experience.
Thank you, Grand Palladium, for having us, and for all the hard work your team does to create special moments for guests!
