Some weddings feel effortless in the very best way — filled with meaningful moments, beautiful details, and a kind of joy you can feel the second guests arrive. Katie and Thayer Mother’s Day weekend wedding at White Birch Barn was exactly that.
Michigan decided to keep us on our toes for this gorgeous May celebration. The wind danced through the trees all afternoon, dark clouds rolled dramatically across the horizon, and distant thunder reminded us spring weather can be unpredictable. But somehow, not a single drop of rain fell. Instead, we were gifted one of those unforgettable Michigan evenings that felt both cozy and cinematic all at once.
Surrounded by 120 of their closest friends and family, Katie and Thayer said “I do” in a celebration that perfectly reflected who they are — timeless, intentional, and full of love.
Thayer looked incredibly handsome dressed in classic black, while Katie completely stole the show in an elegant gown that was the definition of understated beauty. From the front, her dress was timeless and refined, but the real moment was the stunning back detail that left everyone speechless as she walked down the aisle.
Their bridal party complemented the day perfectly with soft sage green tones that blended beautifully with the natural setting of the barn and the fresh May landscape. Each bridesmaid wore a different style dress, creating a look that felt effortless, modern, and incredibly romantic. And Angie, the maid of honor, stood out in the best way with a patterned sage floral dress that added the perfect touch of personality and texture to the palette.
The guys kept things sleek and sophisticated in all black — and can we talk about the magnetic boutonnieres? Absolute game changer. Stylish, practical, and officially something we’d love to see at every wedding moving forward.
What made this wedding especially meaningful, though, was the deep love and remembrance woven throughout the day. Being Mother’s Day weekend, emotions naturally felt a little closer to the surface. Thayer’s mother is sadly no longer with us, and Katie’s father has also passed. Their absence was felt deeply, but so was their presence in spirit throughout the celebration.
In place of traditional parent dances, Katie and Thayer chose to honor their loved ones in a deeply personal way. Before the dance floor officially opened, guests were surprised with a heartfelt slideshow filled with memories and photos honoring those who are no longer here physically but remain forever part of their story. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room.
It was one of those moments that reminded everyone what weddings are truly about — not only celebrating love in the present but also carrying forward the people and memories that helped shape it.
And in true wedding day fashion, there were a couple tiny surprises along the way — a priest arriving just a bit later than planned and napkins making their grand entrance shortly before grand entrance. But thanks to an amazing vendor team, everything came together flawlessly. The ceremony was beautiful, the celebration never missed a beat, and honestly, those little moments are what make wedding days memorable.
From emotional vows to a packed dance floor later in the evening, every part of the day felt intentional and genuine. Even with the storm clouds looming nearby, the atmosphere never shifted. If anything, the dramatic skies only made the day feel more magical.
Katie and Thayer, thank you for allowing us to be part of such a beautiful and emotional celebration. Your wedding was filled with grace, meaning, and so much love — the kind of day no one will soon forget.
